Guido's Summary / Paltalk / Skype

The voice chat rooms that were common in the past, have given way to a new bred of talk. Instant Messenger Programs, such as AOL, Windows Messenger, Yahoo, Google Talk and Paltalk, now incorporate voice capabilities and the ability to create a "temporary, private room", where "buddies" can meet. If all P&M members were using the same program, and we were all on each others "Buddy List", we could all meet in the same "private room" and voice chat together. Let's look at an example:

We ALL were on each others buddy list using Paltalk...We knew from an email we received yesterday, that at 8:00PM tonight, there would be a "P&M voice chat conference" in a private voice room. I would "sign-on" to Paltalk at 7:45PM and open a "private room called...PM". At 8:00PM, everyone else would "sign on" to Paltalk and would go to that room. That's it, and although some programs might limit the gathering to a maximum 10 people, I don't think that would necessarily be a problem.

Paltalk is a free downloadable program that enables simultaneous voice and text chat. Downloading and installing Paltalk, will NOT conflict with Skype, and if a "P&M voice chat conference" would be scheduled", I would only need to send an email to all members interested, of the time and chat room name. Paltalk has good voice quality, and it only requires a Windows 98 or later PC. The download page is linked below:

My research of "voice chat", ran me "smack" into a little gem called Skype. It is by far the best quality and it allows for up to 5 people to gather on a "conference call". I have the program installed and currently have 2 people on my "buddy list". If you choose to download and install Skype, please add me to your list so we can establish connection (boxcars711). The download for the "Basic Program" is FREE, but check out what this neat phone can do for your business and home.

Skype is a free downloadable, real-time voice and text chat communications program. Guido recommends it, because:

It has perhaps the best voice quality available anywhere (very important for foreign language practice!). The quality is better than that of telephones and is perhaps the best of any Internet voice program.
It works with any firewall.

It is available in 17 languages: Danish, Dutch, Estonian, English, Finnish, German, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Swedish.
It is very easy to install and use.

Using Skype, you can have private simultaneous voice and text chat with up to four other people. Skype requires a Windows 2000 or XP computer, Mac OS X or Linux computer or a Pocket PC.
